US renewables developer Sustainable Power Group (sPower) is on track to start commercial operation on 31 December at a 62.1MW wind project in southeast Utah, VP marketing Naomi Keller told reNEWS.
“All of the turbines have been erected,” said Keller. “We are in the final stages of construction.”
sPower named Minnesota-based Fagen Inc as general contractor for the Latigo wind farm, located on private land in Monticello, San Juan County.
GE supplied 27 2.3MW turbines and will handle operations and maintenance for the first five years. The project employed up 100 workers at peak construction.
The up to $126m project has a 20-year power purchase agreement with PacifiCorp, which does business as Rocky Mountain Power in Utah.
The federal production tax credit is worth an estimated at $35m to the project over a 10-year period, said Keller.
Latigo is the first wind project for the Salt Lake City, Utah-based developer. sPower expects to have 500MWdc of operating solar and wind projects by the end of this year and 1000MW by the end of 2016, said Keller.
