US developer Apex Clean Energy is laying the groundwork for a 300MW wind project in northwest Iowa.
The proponent is exploring a site on private land in rural Clay County, adjacent to existing transmission lines. Local wind data confirms the area under consideration is ideal for a project of this size, said Apex.
The developer is in the early stage of community consultation and development and plans to install a meteorological mast to capture wind resource data.
If the Upland Prairie project goes ahead, an estimated 100 to 150 turbines will be placed about ¼ mile apart. Apex aims to complete construction in 2018.
