Siemens has confirmed a contract to supply 6MW turbines to Statoil’s 30MW Hywind floating offshore wind project in Scotland.
The German manufacturer said five SWT-6.0-154 machines would be assembled together with floating spar foundations on the west coast of Norway in 2017 before deployment off Aberdeenshire.
The deal was first reported exclusively in subscriber-only newsletter reNEWS at the beginning of the year.
“Siemens is strengthening its collaboration with Norwegian company Statoil on floating offshore wind turbines,” said Siemens, which also supplied a 2.3MW turbine to the Hywind floating demonstrator off Karmoy in 2009 (pictured).
Hywind Scotland will be located in waters up to 120 metres deep 25km off Peterhead and is due to be full operational in 2017.
