Acciona Windpower has installed more than 1GW of wind power capacity using concrete tower technology.
The company said, so far, total installations stand at 1045.5MW of wind capacity using concrete towers, of which 924MW (88%) is with 3MW turbines and the rest with 1.5MW machines.
By countries, the capacity is shared between Brazil (411MW), México (225MW), South Africa (138MW), Spain (84MW), Poland (63MW) and USA (3MW) all with AW3000 wind turbines. The company has also installed 121.5MW with the AW1500 platform.
Acciona said it first installed a concrete tower 10 years ago using the AW1500 platform.
The company has completed additional orders for more than 800MW of concrete-tower-mounted wind turbines worldwide, which will be installed between 2016 and 2018.
It has opened two concrete tower production plants for wind turbines in Brazil – one in Rio Grande do Norte and another in Ceará. The company is currently preparing a third one in Rio Grande do Sul, which is due to enter service by February 2016.
Additionally, Acciona owns another plant in Mexico and is about to finish another one in India.
