A2Sea jack-up Sea Challenger has arrived at the site of the 402MW Dudgeon wind farm off the UK east coast to begin a three-month stint as an accommodation vessel.
The Danish offshore outfit said the vessel (pictured) will be at the site until installation of the project’s 67 Siemens 6MW turbines begins early next year.
The deployment follows a mobilisation period in Newcastle for the jack-up where it was prepared for service as an accommodation vessel.
All 67 Sif-made monopile foundations and transition pieces, and an offshore substation, have been installed at the wind farm.
Dudgeon is owned by Statoil, Statkraft and Masdar. It is slated for commissioning in 2017.
Meanwhile, A2Sea said the charter of its M/V Torben jack-up to carry out foundation and turbine installation at the 8MW Formosa 1 wind farm in Taiwan has ended unsuccessfully.
A2Sea said the work could not be completed “due to technical failure of equipment and project delays from the foundation contractor on board the vessel”.
“For A2Sea, the extension options for the vessel was exhausted, and the project was not completed at the time of the charter termination,” it added.
Alternative contractors will now be sources to complete the installation of two Siemens 4MW turbines.
