Digital Catapult, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult and Ørsted have selected AIM Group and Entopy to develop AI solutions for offshore wind operations and maintenance in the UK.
Digital Catapult said the companies were chosen through the Digital Innovation Challenge to enhance data-driven tools aimed at improving safety, efficiency and costs.
The organisation added that the programme will support the maturation of AI-led technologies to reduce operational risks and costs in offshore wind.
AIM Group will focus on AI-driven structural risk management capable of detecting early-stage defects and forecasting asset performance.
Entopy will develop its ‘Unified Operational Intelligence’ platform to improve decision-making and identify cascading impacts across offshore wind operations.
The six-month programme will provide innovation support, technical consultancy and guidance on ethical AI implementation.
Participants will also receive sector expertise from ORE Catapult and potential opportunities to pilot solutions with Ørsted’s portfolio, including its 12 operational UK offshore wind farms.
Alex Louden, head of UK&IE innovation hub at Ørsted, said: “Ørsted has the largest operating offshore wind fleet in the UK, and we know there is untapped potential from the data we already have that digital and AI solutions can unlock.”
“These solutions can enable greater insight into our assets’ health and improve our operational decision-making.”
Jessica Rushworth, chief partnerships officer at Digital Catapult, said: “The UK is a global leader in offshore wind as the world’s second-largest market, generating around 17% of the country’s electricity.”
“That progress can only be mobilised through meaningful partnership between innovators, industry leaders and innovation organisations.”
