Environmental service provider Jasco Applied Sciences is to provide underwater acoustic measurement and monitoring services for North America’s first offshore wind farm, Block Island.
Under subcontract to Tetra Tech for Deepwater Wind’s 30MW project in Rhode Island, the company will conduct field data acquisition and subsequent analysis and interpretation for short- and long-term studies of noise from pile driving and related construction activities.
The work is supported by staff from one of Jasco’s USA offices located in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Jasco chief executive Scott Carr said: “Being selected for involvement in this project reflects the valuable knowledge, services, and systems Jasco can provide to support offshore wind, tidal, and wave energy projects.”
The work is part of a growing body of environmental marine acoustics studies that Jasco is performing off the eastern coast of North America to contribute to the understanding of subsea ambient noise environments and of marine mammal habitats and migration routes in the region.
