Foundation and tower manufacturer Ambau is to end production at its Bremen facility to concentrate fabrication operations in Cuxhaven in northern Germany.
Ambau will be moving into production facilities previously occupied by former Bard subsidiary Cuxhaven Steel Construction, according to reports in the Cuxhavener Nachrichten and Weser Kurier local newspapers.
The German company already has an adjacent facility in operation in the port. It has some 80 employees at the Bremen production site, as well as 100 contract staff members.
“We need to expand in Cuxhaven as we have full order books,” Ambau chief executive Joachim Görlitz told local media.
It remains unclear if administration and management work will also end at the Bremen site with talks with the workers’ council underway.
A spokeswoman declined to comment when contacted by reNEWS.
Earlier this year, Siemens started impact pile driving at its new €200m wind turbine manufacturing facility at Cuxhaven. The facility will be located next to the Ambau site and at the edge of the harbour.
It is scheduled to start production in mid-2017 of nacelles for the next-generation D7 wind turbines.
