The Australian Minister for Climate Change and Energy has declared a portion of the Southern Ocean region off Victoria as an offshore wind area.
The zone covers 1030sq km offshore from Warrnambool and Port Fairy, in western Victoria. According to Australian authorities has a potential power generation of 2900MW.

The area is now open for feasibility licence applications, with projects open for offshore wind developments and other technologies.
The area will require more environmental assessments and investigations to inform future development options, according to Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
Licence applications are open until 2 July 2024.
