Baker Consultants is to carry out underwater noise monitoring for Iberdrola’s 350MW Wikinger offshore wind farm in Germany.
The company will build on similar contracts at Dong’s Borkum Riffgrund 1 and Gode Wind 1 & 2 projects at the Spanish utility’s Baltic Sea development.
Construction of the 70-turbine wind farm begins in March. Baker will monitor underwater noise emissions as well as the activity of harbour porpoises that may be present within and around the wind farm during piling operations.
Baker managing director Andrew Baker said: “Our unique skill-set and technical expertise in underwater noise monitoring, bioacoustics and marine mammal monitoring allow us to provide a comprehensive service to Iberdrola.
“We are able to generate robust results in line with underwater noise regulations and reduce costs through our use of technical innovation.”
Wikinger will feature 70 Adwen 5MW turbines and is due to go live in 2017.
