The offshore wind industry in Belgium could create up to 16,000 new long-term jobs over the next few years, according to an industry lobby group.
Belgian Offshore Platform said the sector is creating roles in research, development, construction, fabrication, installation and maintenance.
BOP also said offshore wind is having a positive impact on public finances and is “essential” for achieving the country’s renewable energy targets.
A study released by the lobby group also says offshore wind is contributing to lower electricity prices.
BOP said the continued development of Belgian offshore wind is “essential” to give the country’s supply chain companies the edge in exporting their expertise to other markets.
The study has been launched to coincide with a BOP event is Ostend that is being held today and on Thursday.
