German energy and water industry association BDEW has called on the country’s new government to auction an additional 1.6GW of offshore wind capacity to come online by 2025 in the North and Baltic Seas.
BDEW said the additional capacity is needed for Germany to meet its 2030 climate change goals.
BDEW executive board chairman Stefan Kapferer said: “The coalition agreement for 2019 includes a special tender for wind offshore. This should be 1.6GW.
“Otherwise, there is no potential for achieving the 2030 climate goals. In order to ensure the further integration of renewable energies as a whole, network expansion on land must urgently be accelerated.”
BDEW said currently up to 2025 some 10.8GW of new offshore wind power is planned. About 7.7GW will go online by 2020, with 3.1GW going live between 2021 and 2025.
