EDF Energies Nouvelles and a consortium of French energy giant Engie and Portugal’s EDPR have confirmed bids for France’s Round 3 Dunkirk offshore wind farm.
The announcements follow the end of the deadline to submit pre-qualification bids for the project, which will have capacity of between 250MW and 750MW, to French energy watchdog CRE.
The Engie/EDPR consortium said in a statement that the key strengths of its bid are an optimised project layout that takes into account the zone’s environmental challenges.
EDF EN said the company would be bidding for all Round 3 projects, which also include the Oléron and Berck-sur-Mer projects.
The CRE now has one month to pre-select candidates to participate in a so-called competitive dialogue that will pin down the exact bidding conditions for Dunkirk.
The successful bidder will be announced early next year and Dunkirk is scheduled to be up and running in 2022.
Engie and EDPR are already cooperating on the country’s Round 2 500MW Noirmoutier and Le Tréport projects and on floating offshore projects in France and Portugal.
Wind farms in France’s Round 1 and 2 include projects with a total capacity of 3GW.
The country’s first offshore wind farms are expected to be operational in 2021.
