Bilbao Port grants expansion to Haizea Wind

Bilbao Port grants expansion to Haizea Wind

The Bilbao Port Authority has approved a 128,668m² extension to Haizea Bilbao’s concession, significantly expanding the company’s footprint in the port as it scales up its offshore wind manufacturing operations.

Haizea Bilbao, part of the Haizea Wind Group, manufactures offshore wind towers and foundations and has already invested over €300 million in dockside facilities.

The newly granted area spans Docks AZ-2 and AZ-3, adjacent to the company’s existing concession, bringing its total space in the port to approximately 340,000m².

The expansion follows a phased growth strategy and supports the Port of Bilbao’s ambition to become a hub for offshore wind logistics and manufacturing.

The newly allocated land was previously linked to operations by Servicios Logísticos Portuarios (SLP) and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy Eólica, both of which have relocated within the port as part of a broader spatial reorganisation designed to optimise business operations.

Haizea Wind began operations in the Port of Bilbao in 2018. It is now part of a cluster of companies with dockside facilities that includes Euskalforging, Forjas de Iraeta, Laulagun, Navacel, Nordex Acciona, Sakana, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and Vicinay Cadenas. These firms benefit from the port’s infrastructure, which enables direct export of large-scale turbine components.

Bilbao’s hinterland also hosts a wide array of wind industry players across the value chain, with local production of turbine rotors, nacelles and electrical systems. The port’s integrated manufacturing and export capabilities continue to attract investment as the offshore wind sector accelerates across Europe.
