The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has published new guidelines on the lighting and marking for offshore wind farms around the US coast.
The guidelines recommend that lighting does not “unreasonably interfere” with other ocean users and does not cause harm or damage to any other offshore structures.

Developers must use the “best available and safest technology” and use “best management practices”, added BOEM.
The federal agency said the recommendations will be part of site assessment, construction and operations and general activities plans.
Interested parties can submit commits on the draft no later than 25 November.
