Fred Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up Brave Tern has arrived in St Nazaire in western France to collect GE Renewable Energy’s five 150 6MW nacelles for the 30MW Block Island wind project in the US.
Fred Olsen said the process of loading nacelles on to the jack-up vessel (pictured) “will begin shortly”.
The towers and blades have already been delivered to the Port of Providence, with Block Island developer Deepwater Wind planning to start turbine installation in August.
Commissioning of the US’s first offshore wind farm is expected in late 2016.
Fred Olsen Windcarrier head of commercial and projects Even Larsen said: “This is an exciting project to be working on and we look forward to working closely with GE and Deepwater Wind to safely and efficiently install the first offshore wind farm in America.”
