Cable laying vessel Cable Enterprise has started burying a 27 km AC cable section at the Ostwind 1 link in the German Baltic Sea.
The cable produced by Prysmian’s Arco Felice plant in Italy will be buried between the 39 and 66 kms of Ostwind 1 in the next three weeks, TSO 50Hertz said.
It will be followed by a 18 km section, manufactured at Prysmian’s Pikkala facility near Helsinki.
The 93 km Ostwind 1 system will connect the Westlich Adlergrund cluster in the German Baltic Sea to the transformer station in Lubmin, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
This includes Iberdrola’s 350MW Wikinger project, currently under construction, and Eon’s 385MW Arkona wind farm.
The completion of the grid link is slated for late 2018.
