Cable supplier Prysmian is set to load out 18kms of AC cable at its Pikkala facility in Finland to be buried at the Ostwind 1 link in the German Baltic Sea.
A second 25km section produced by Prysmian in Italy is on its way to the Baltic Sea.
Both sections will be buried starting in May, once transmission system operator 50Hertz has completed its UXO campaign.
Contractor Munitionsbergungsdienst Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has removed 442 pieces of unexploded ordnance from the 90km section off the German coast.
The 93km Ostwind 1 system will connect the Westlich Adlergrund cluster in the German Baltic Sea to the transformer station in Lubmin, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
This includes Iberdrola’s 350MW Wikinger project, under construction, and Eon’s 385MW Arkona wind farm.
Completion of the grid link is slated for 2018.
