Cerulean Winds has submitted an offshore consent application to the Scottish government for its proposed 1GW Aspen floating wind farm off east Scotland.
The developer said it is aiming to bring the up to 72-turbine INTOG project online by the end of the decade, creating 1,000 jobs during the build-out and attracting total investment of £10.9bn across a 50-year lifespan.
The development consortium comprising NOV, Siemens Energy, Bilfinger and Ocean Installer plans to deliver the floater in advance of the neighbouring 1GW Cedar and 1GW Beech arrays using Haventus’ Ardersier Energy Transition Facility near Inverness as a strategic hub.
Cerulean Winds senior director Colin Maciver said: “We are pleased to meet this milestone in delivering the important Aspen floating project. We plan to build upon the pre-application engagements and look forward to proactive and meaningful dialogue with stakeholders to ensure the submission is well understood and practical solutions can be taken to ensure any remaining uncertainty or questions are addressed.”
Cerulean Winds founding director Dan Jackson added: “This milestone enables us to move forward with delivering 1GW of clean power and supporting over 1,000 jobs by anchoring a new industrial base for floating wind in Scotland.
“Aspen will play a major role in accelerating the energy transition and reducing emissions from oil and gas operations, all while creating long-term economic value for communities across the country.”
