TenneT has contracted Zhongtian Technology Submarine Cable Company for wires to link the Kaskasi 2 and Gode Wind 3 offshore wind farms in the German North Sea to the HelWin beta and DolWin kappa converter stations.
The connections will be for five and 16 kilometres, respectively, TenneT said.
The cable systems will be produced at one of Zhongtian’s manufacturing facilities in Nantong, China, and then transported to Europe.
Installation will be carried out by Greek subcontractor Asso Subsea.
The first cable laying is planned for summer 2022 to connect Kaskasi 2 offshore wind farm.
Two cable systems with a conductor cross-section of 630 square millimetres will be used to transmit 342MW on the five-kilometre long route between the wind farm’s transformer station and HelWin beta.
From the HelWin2 grid connection, electricity is transported over 130 kilometres to the land station at Buttel in Schleswig-Holstein.
In summer 2023, TenneT will use for the first time three-phase cable with a conductor cross-section of 1200 square millimetres to transport the almost 242MW from the Gode Wind 3 offshore wind farm to DolWin kappa.
