EDF power solutions has signed its first corporate power purchase agreement for offshore wind in Taiwan for the 440MW Wei Lan Hai Changhua project.
The 30-year CPPA was concluded with Taiwan Smart Electricity & Energy, the government-backed electricity aggregator newly established to support renewable energy procurement.
EDF power solutions is the majority shareholder in the Wei Lan Hai Changhua project, which was awarded in 2022 and will generate 1700GWh of electricity annually once operational.
The company said the agreement marks a key milestone in its Asia-Pacific portfolio and represents the first CPPA signed by TSEE since its creation.
Taiwan’s demand for renewable power is rising sharply, driven by growth in the semiconductor and AI sectors and national targets of 10.8GW of offshore wind by 2030.
EDF power solutions said the project will contribute to Taiwan’s energy independence and support its low carbon transition.
Although large industrials currently dominate Taiwan’s renewable energy market, EDF said the agreement also demonstrates growing interest among small and medium-sized enterprises seeking access to offshore wind power.
