Denmark’s Nicon Industries has secured a contract for the fabrication and installation of seafastening structures for Fred Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up vessel Bold Tern.
In early 2017, the vessel will be installing turbines at the 402MW Veja Mate wind farm in the German North Sea.
Seafastening structures are temporary foundations installed on jack-up vessels, which the turbine components are attached to while they are shipped to offshore wind farms.
Veja Mate will consist of 67 Siemens 6MW turbines using XXL monopiles fabricated by EEW. The construction site is located some 95km northwest of the island of Borkum in water depths of some 40m.
The project is expected to be fully operational on 1 January 2018. Veja Mate shareholders include Siemens Financial Services and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners alongside Highland.
