Deep Wind Offshore has won a 1GW project area in the latest Estonian tender process.
The auction was the part of the Baltic region’s drive to open 20GW of zones for offshore wind production for by 2030.
The Saare 2.1 tract has a water depth between 29 metres and 66 metres and comprises 164 square kilometres.
It is located outside Saaremaa Island, with favourable wind conditions for efficient energy production, said the developer.
“Estonia is turning ambitions into action, and we are really excited to have been awarded this site,” said Deep Wind chief executive Knut Vassbotn (pictured above right with project director Kjetil Jacobsen).
“Deep Wind Offshore will contribute to the country reaching its climate goals, providing energy security, building value chains, and creating new jobs.
“Deep Wind Offshore stays committed to developing more than 10 GW of offshore wind within 10 years. This means both continuing to develop projects in our core markets and to exploit opportunities in new markets. With this award, Estonia is set to become a core market.”
