DNV GL has won the project certification contract for Eon and Statoil’s 385MW Arkona offshore wind farm to be located 35km northeast of Rügen Island in the Baltic Sea.
The work will cover the inspection phases, from manufacturing, transport, installation and commissioning to the wind farm coming into operation.
DNV GL has worked on the project since 2014 when it was hired by Eon to perform a full design assessment of the wind farm’s Siemens SWT-6.0-154 turbines and the offshore substations.
The two companies are currently collaborating to finalise the design of both offshore transformer station and turbine and support structures.
Eon and Statoil each have a 50% stake in the project, with the Germany utility responsible for building and operating the wind farm.
Arkona is planned to be complete in 2019.
DNV GL said: “The stringent inspections of the project certification phase are designed to ensure that the assumptions made in the design assessment phase are validated and thus support the goal to provide optimal reliability for the entirety of the project lifetime.”
