DNV GL has certified Vattenfall’s offshore accommodation platform that hosts 50 operation and maintenance staff working on the 288MW DanTysk offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
The certification is a requirement of the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency for all offshore structures.
DNV GL said the wind farm is 90km from the nearest harbour and so Vattenfall designed the offshore structure – the first such platform in the North Sea – to enable staff to live independently close to the project for up to three weeks.
It said the static design of the accommodation platform is similar to an offshore substation, but the interior design of the construction is different, providing living space comparable to a hotel environment.
The certification process focused not only on the platform structure, but also on all safety aspects covering fire protection, electricity supply, escape and evacuation route, DNV GL said.
