Dong Energy has abandoned plans to deploy 58 suction jacket foundations at its 1.2GW Hornsea 1 wind farm off the Yorkshire coast.
The Danish giant will now use monopiles across all 174 turbine locations and is in advanced supply talks.
Dong told reNEWS it has “flexibility” with the Hornsea 1 supply chain, which has allowed it to change tack on the foundations to meet the “needs of the project, including timescales”.
It added: “This decision optimises the execution of the project and helps ensure it will be built on time.”
Fabrication of jackets for Hornsea had been timed to dovetail with installation, which is expected to start next year.
