Jan De Nul will this month replace 1.9km of array cable at Dong Energy’s newly inaugurated 258MW Burbo Bank 2 offshore wind farm in Liverpool Bay.
Cable lay vessel Willem de Vlamingh will swap out the Nexans-made cable between turbines A02 and C02 less than a year after the hardware was installed.
The Danish energy giant would not be drawn on the specific nature of the problem, but said the cable was currently fully operational.
“The cable was handled outside its installation specification during the installation, so as a precaution it is being replaced to ensure the planned lifetime of 25 years,” a Dong spokesperson said.
The work is expected to begin on 28 May and last about 21 days.
