Dong has pulled the plug on plans to set up an offshore wind operations hub at the Able Marine Energy Park in the Humber Estuary.
The Danish offshore giant said a “detailed review” concluded that the £450m UK project could not be developed in time to support its east coast wind farms.
Dong said last week’s Offshore Wind Industry Council strategic review of east coast ports found that existing facilities can support demand.
“Following a detailed review we have concluded that the timescales for development of such a hub would preclude it providing support for any of our planned projects,” a Dong statement said.
“We will now fully support and engage with the industry approach. Dong Energy remains fully committed to the Humber region and we expect to have invested £6 billion in the area by 2019.”
The Danish company signed a memorandum of understanding with Able for the development in June 2015.
Up to 4000 new jobs were earmarked for the site at the North Killingholme facility that covers 800 acres and includes high spec quays.
