AMS No-Dig is to design, supply and install cable ducts for Dong Energy’s 1.2GW Hornsea 1 offshore wind farm off the Yorkshire coast in the UK.
The Scunthorpe-based company will install three cable ducts approximately 200 metres long under the sea defence at Horseshoe Bay, south of Grimsby.
The offshore export cables will be pulled through the ducts and connected to the onshore cable to connect to the national grid.
AMS No-Dig will use horizontal directional drilling techniques to install the landfall cable ducts.
The HDD technique ensures installation without disturbing surface structures and thereby avoiding the disruption caused by traditional open trenching methods.
The work is scheduled to take place in 2017.
Dong Energy programme director for Hornsea 1 Duncan Clark said: “The cable ducts being designed, supplied and safely installed by a company based locally in Scunthorpe is really encouraging and sends out a positive messages to the rest of the UK supply chain.”
AMS No-Dig operations director John Moss said: “The scope of AMS No-Dig works includes the installation of three large diameter ducts beneath a sea defence to ensure cables can be fed to the offshore element of the project whilst mitigating the environmental impact of the works to the local area.”
