Dongfang Electric has installed and grid-connected China’s first 10MW offshore wind turbine at the second phase of China Three Gorges’s Fujian Xinghua Bay wind farm.
The single machine has a hub height of 115 metres above sea level with a rotor diameter of 185 metres, said Dongfang.
It added that the turbine will now undergo testing and verification, after which it will be mass-produced.
Dongfang said the unit is also the largest in operation in Asia-Pacific and is designed for Class I wind zones in Fujian, Guangdong and other sea areas.
“Its successful grid connection signifies that China has fully possessed the independent R&D, manufacturing, and installation capabilities of 10MW-level large-capacity offshore wind turbines,” the company said.
