The Dutch parliament has asked the government to add another offshore wind farm zone to the existing plan for projects due to come online by 2023.
MPs voted in favour today of a proposal by Liesbeth van Tongeren and Jan Vos calling on the government to investigate as soon as possible if an additional offshore wind farm could be developed by 2023.
Last year, a consortium of Shell, Van Oord, Eneco and Mitsubishi/Diamond Generating Europe won the right to develop and build the 680MW Borssele 3&4 offshore wind farm, while Dong won the tender for the 700MW Borssele 1&2 projects.
The country currently aims to have 4.5GW of offshore wind capacity installed by 2023.
A separate motion also calls for the Netherlands to set a renewable energy target of 30% by 2030.
