The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the creation of a JV between Mitsui & Co, Osaka Gas Co, and RWE Offshore Wind Japan Murakami-Tainai K K.
The consortium has been formed to the construct and operate an 684MW offshore wind farm in Japan.
The Japanese government has appointed the JV to develop, construct and operate the fixed-bottom offshore wind farm off the country’s west coast.
Full commissioning is scheduled for June 2029. The site is expected to consist of 38 turbines.
The Commission concluded the notified transaction would not raise competition concerns, given its limited impact on the European Economic Area.
The notified transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure, the Commission said.
