European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen (pictured) has announced a new European Wind Power Package.
Von der Leyen said in her State of the European Union speech stressed that the wind industry is central to delivering the EU Green Deal but is facing a unique set of challenges.
To address these challenges, the Commission will put forward the package of measures, working closely with industry and member states.
Von der Leyen said: “We will fast-track permitting even more. We will improve the auction systems across the EU. We will focus on skills, access to finance and stable supply chains.”
She concluded that “the future of our clean tech industry has to be made in Europe”.WindEurope welcomed the announcement, saying each of the points mentioned by von der Leyen were critical.
WindEurope chief executive Giles Dickson said: “It’s very good the Commission are going to do this.
“It can’t come soon enough given the crisis our industry is facing now.
“And the President is absolutely right: it is essential that wind energy continues to be made in Europe.”
