European Energy has finalised an agreement with a Danish utility company to develop the 160MW Lillebaelt Syd nearshore wind farm off Denmark.
Under the agreement, European Energy now owns 50% of the planned project, which is expected to enter into operation in 2027.
Sonderborg Forsyning will hold the remaining 50% stake in the development company Lillebaelt Vind.
European Energy first aired its interest in entering into a partnership with Sonderborg Forsyning in July 2021 and will now continue to support the development of the wind farm in a joint ownership.
Sonderborg Forsyning managing director Hans Erik Kristoffersen told Danish newspaper JydskeVestkysten: “They are frontrunners in the field of developing solar and wind energy, and we can benefit greatly from their competencies.
“We are a good match for each other, and European Energy is completely focused on the progress of the project.”
Scenarios for turbine sizes are currently being worked on with a tip height of up to 242 metres.
The green power generated from the park will play an important role in realizing ‘ProjectZero’, which is the town council’s vision of making Sønderborg Municipality carbon-neutral by 2029.
European Energy chief executive Knud Erik Andersen said: “We look forward to contributing with our knowledge within the development of the offshore wind farm in the new joint project.
“The Lillebaelt project is a crucial means to achieving ProjectZero, and we will now put all our efforts into the work getting the wind turbines up and running, and among other things, using the green power to develop a new Power-to-X adventure in Sonderborg Municipality.”
