Principle Power has completed the integration of the third and final turbine for Ocean Winds’ 30MW Eoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion (EFGL) floating wind farm at Port-La Nouvelle.
The WindFloat platform, carrying a Vestas V164-10MW turbine, will soon be towed offshore to join the first unit already installed 16km off Leucate and Le Barcares, the foundation company stated on social media.
This milestone concludes all onshore construction activities, with three turbines now fully integrated on Principle Power’s platforms.
The company said the achievement demonstrates the technical maturity of the WindFloat technology and strong collaboration between project sponsors Ocean Winds and subcontractors Euroports, Mammoet, Vestas, Eiffage Metal, Smulders, and the Port-La Nouvelle infrastructure developed by La Region Occitanie/Pyrenees-Mediterranee.
Principle Power added that methods shaped by more than a decade of operational experience were applied to the EFGL structures. Previous projects include the 2MW WindFloat 1 in 2011, the 25MW WindFloat Atlantic in 2020, and the 50MW Kincardine project in 2021.
The company said lessons from these projects informed the third-generation platforms now set to operate in Mediterranean waters.
It added that a fourth generation of WindFloat technologies is being developed for the next round of commercial-scale projects in France and beyond, designed for 15MW-20MW-plus turbines and equipped with features to streamline execution, maximise production, and boost reliability.
