The first gravity-based foundation has been completed at the port of Le Havre in France for the almost 500MW Fecamp offshore wind farm.
A consortium of Bouygues Travaux Publics, Saipem and Boskalis is responsible for the construction, transport and installation of the foundations.
Each foundation weighs 5000 tonnes and measures 31 metres in diameter at its base.
The height of the foundations ranges from 48 to 54 metres, depending on where it will be installed at sea.
Fabrication of the remaining foundations will continue until this summer.
Offshore work on Fecamp will continue until the end of 2023.
The wind farm is being developed by EDF Renewables, EIH (owned by Enbridge and CPP Investments) and WPD.
It will feature 71 turbines and is due to come online at the end of next year.
