UK company First Subsea is to provide cable protection systems for the 50MW Kindcardine floating offshore wind farm off the coast of Scotland, the company’s second contract for the project.
The deal follows on from an initial supply of CPSs to the project last year, First Subsea said.
The latest contract will supply a further 11 CPSs to the project, 15km off the coast south of Aberdeen.
First Subsea said the system combines a mechanical diver-less subsea connector and polyurethane bend stiffener that is connected to the floater during the pull in of the electrical power cable.
“During operation lifespan of wind farm the CPS stiffens the cable at the point of entry and protects the cable from the effect of bending moments caused by the dynamic conditions offshore,” the company said.
“The bend stiffener improves the fatigue life of the cable in nearshore areas which traditionally sees higher frequency loading than floating facilities further offshore,” it added.
First Subsea is also providing platform mooring connectors to the project.
