Trianel has completed installation of the first turbine at its 200MW Borkum West 2.2 wind farm in the German North Sea.
Contractor Jan De Nul erected the first of 32 Senvion 6.3MW units in an operation that had been hampered by bad weather.
Two more machines will be installed by jack-up Taillevent in the “coming days”, according to Trianel, with commissioning on track for the year-end.
Installation was initially due to start in mid-April but was delayed due to financial problems at manufacturer Senvion, which entered self-administration earlier this year.
“With the construction of the first plant, we have reached the next stage of construction and will gradually commission the wind farm,” said project managing director Klaus Horstick.
“Two thirds of the turbines are already delivered…We are well on our way and expect to complete the offshore project with the partners and project partners on schedule by the end of the year.”
