French company Piriou has unveiled designs for a new cable lay and repair vessel that could be deployed for work in the offshore wind sector.
The 100-metre long vessel could carry up to 49 crew and also has space for a further 27 specialist personnel.
It could handle up to 1000 tonnes of cable, with one of its two storage tanks fitted with a carousel to deploy wires, the company said.
The vessel will have a maximum speed of 14.5 knots and a deadweight of 2100 tonnes.
Its range will be 35 days or 16,000km at 12 knots.
Piriou Group chief executive Vincent Faujour said: “This project represents one year of intense teamwork for Piriou Ingenierie design department.
“The result reflects their commitment and allows us to widen our product range with the cable vessels segment.”
The company also recently was one of three winners of a call for notification of interest for an offshore innovation challenge managed by WPD and the Brittany maritime cluster Pole Mer Bretagne Atlantique with a crew transfer vessel with hydrogen hybrid propulsion.
