Fugro has started geotechnical site drilling work off the coast of Massachusetts where Avangrid Renewables aims to develop its 1232MW Commonwealth Wind project.
The M/V Regulus operated by Fugro USA Marine, will be conducting the work until 31 August 2022.
The vessel will be stationary while operating geotechnical drilling equipment for site investigation work and will have a maximum transit speed of 10 knots while underway, Avangrid said.
Commonwealth Wind was successful in securing a power contract as part of Massachusetts’ third offshore wind competitive procurement.
The project, New England’s largest offshore wind project to date, is expected to create 11,000 full time equivalent jobs over its lifetime and generate enough energy to power 750,000 homes.
