Funding has been secured to build the 383MW Fryslan nearshore wind farm at Ijsselmeer lake in the Netherlands.
A total of 10 unnamed banks and the province of Fryslan are jointly financing the project, which will be located south of the Afsluitdijk, 6km off the Frisian coast.
The Zuiderzeewind consortium of Siemens Gamesa and Van Oord will build the wind farm, which will feature 89 of the former’s 130-4.3MW turbines.
Siemens Gamesa will also service the hardware for 16 years.
Van Oord said that preparatory work has already begun, with soil investigations having started at the end of last year.
In March, ducts were installed at Breezanddijk for power cables that connect the turbines to the transformer station.
Construction of the transformer station on Breezanddijk has also started, as well as the installation of the power cables at Afsluitdijk.
Zuiderzeewind will partner with local Frisian companies where possible on the build.
Windpark Fryslan project director Anne de Groot said: “We are proud to be able to realise a wind park that contributes over 70% to the Frisian objective for sustainable energy, supplies sufficient energy for all Frisian households.”
The wind farm is scheduled to be fully operational in 2021.
