GE Renewable Energy is planning to set up a factory to build its 12MW Haliade-X offshore wind turbine in China.
The company told reNEWS it has signed a “heads of terms” agreement with Guangzhou Municipal Construction Group to establish the factory in the city of Jieyang.
A GE spokesman said: “We are currently working on the definitive agreement that we expect to sign shortly.”
The facility will give GE the opportunity to meet China’s growing demand for offshore wind energy with the Haliade-X, he said.
However, the company’s plant in St Nazaire, France, will remain the manufacturing hub for all other Haliade-X international projects, the spokesman added.
GE is planning to install a Haliade-X prototype at Rotterdam in the Netherlands this summer and ship the first commercial units in 2021.
