GE Vernova has confirmed that it has fired a number of personnel from its LM Wind Power factory in Gaspé, Canada after its investigation into a July blade failure at the 806MW Vineyard Wind array.
A GE Vernova spokesperson told renews:
“As previously shared, we commenced an extensive internal review of our blade manufacturing and quality assurance program across our offshore wind operations following the July blade event at Vineyard Wind.
“During the review we determined that the quality controls in our Gaspé factory did not meet our expectations.
“As a result, several weeks ago we implemented corrective actions at our blade facility in Gaspé, which included impacts to processes and people. We are confident in our ability to implement these corrective actions and move forward”.
The company added that a “small number” of employees, including some senior level plant supervisors, were terminated or suspended as a result of GE Vernova’s findings.
The company declined to provide any more details on employee actions or what led to the dismissals.
GE Vernova CEO Scott Strazik has said that the company discovered in its investigation that a “low single digit proportion of our manufactured blades in totality also had a manufacturing deviation similar” to the blade that failed at Vineyard Wind.
