GE will likely book the first orders with developers for a new 17-18MW variant of its existing Haliade-X turbine in 2024 and 2025.
Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova, told investors at the OEM’s capital markets day that feedback on the new machine has been positive, adding the new model could be “very profitable” for the business.
“I think over the course of this year there’s a high likelihood we’ll get tax selects for that next product,” Strazik added.
GE began offering the turbine to developers last year as first reported in the subscriber-only edition of reNEWS on 7 July 2022.
At the time sources said the unit would have a rotor diameter of around 250 metres and could be used for offshore wind farms coming online towards the end of the decade.
