Geoscience consultancy EPI Group has begun site surveys at an unnamed offshore wind farm development in the US Atlantic.
The monitoring and mitigation work for a confidential client involves 19 protected species observers and passive acoustic monitor operators across multiple vessels, as well as environmental advising and reporting.
This is especially important to protect the critically endangered North Atlantic right whales in the area, EPI said.
Ensuring their safety as the project develops “requires real time monitoring of the whales and mitigation measures when they are found in the vicinity of the operations”, the company said.
EPI said it has supported numerous projects in the US Atlantic over the past few years to ensure projects comply with US regulations.
