Germany’s offshore wind industry has welcomed the country’s draft grid development plan for 2035.
The plan reflects the increasing importance of offshore wind energy for the energy supply system, the Federal Association of Offshore Wind Farm Operators (BWO) said.
BWO added that all the scenarios in the plan are aimed at steady expansion, which is an important signal, especially for the ailing value chain.
It noted that the previously unused potential of the Baltic Sea will also be addressed.
BWO managing director Stefan Thimm (pictured) said: “In addition, a European framework is needed to connect offshore wind farms to the power grids of several European countries.
“The necessary legal framework and coherent concepts for the production and transport of green hydrogen from offshore wind energy are still missing.
“This need for political action is also rightly addressed in the network development plan.”
