German outfit Pfisterer is to supply cable connectors for ScottishPower Renewables’ 714MW East Anglia 1 offshore wind farm off the UK’s east coast.
The company said it is cooperating with cable manufacturer JDR to supply Connex cast resin joints and plug connectors for up to 72.5kV for the project.
Pfisterer said the cast resin joints, which have been offshore certified by DNV GL, are insulated, pluggable, touch-safe, resistant to salt water and UV radiation and are also submergible.
Type testing of the JDR submarine cables and Connex fittings has taken place, the company said.
It added that JDR is supplying 155km of array cables including the Pfisterer connections to VBMS for installation.
Pfisterer UK project leader Karl McFadden said: “We are delighted that we were able to convince ScottishPower Renewables and VBMS with our experience and the tried and tested Connex solution.”
EA1 will comprise 102 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines connected to the grid via two converter stations in a 66kV network.
