JDR is to supply array cables for ScottishPower Renewables’ 714MW East Anglia 1 offshore wind farm off the UK’s Suffolk coast.
The UK company was selected by VBMS, which has the contract to supply, install, bury, terminate and test the 102 66kV cables.
JDR will design and manufacture 155km of array cables including end terminations, as well as a cable management system at each turbine that allows for a 66kV topside connection to the switchgear.
It will manufacture the cables at its Hartlepool facility for delivery in the first quarter of 2019.
VBMS director commerce Jack Wattel said: “We are looking forward to cooperating with JDR on the production and installation of 102 66kV intra-array cables and delivering this prestigious project in a safe and efficient way to ScottishPower Renewables.”
JDR chief technology officer James Young said: “It’s fantastic to see that 66kV cable technology will be deployed on a large-scale project to further reduce the cost of offshore wind.”
Meanwhile, Tata Steel’s Hartlepool mill is to supply 4400 tonnes of structural pipe for the project’s foundations, supporting 130 employees at the facility.
Tata Steel works manager Andy Hill said: “We are delighted to be part of the supply chain team in support of the East Anglia 1 project and look forward to its successful conclusion.
