Equinor has awarded Global Maritime with a marine warranty survey contract for its 88MW Hywind Tampen floating wind project.
The project is still awaiting certain approvals, according to Global Maritime but the company said it intends to begin the main offshore campaigns soon.
The wind farm is scheduled to start production at the end of 2022.
Global Maritime joins a growing roster of contractors and service providers on Hywind Tampen Equinor, including Siemens Gamesa, Kvaerner, Siemens Gamesa, JDR and Subsea 7.
Global Maritime chief executive Jonny Logan said: “I’m really excited and proud on behalf of the team that we have been awarded this contract.
“Floating wind is strategically important for our continued growth within renewable energy. This project gives us yet another opportunity to show our strength and unique competence within this field. “
Earlier this month the EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) approved support from the Norwegian government for Equinor’s project, off the coast of Norway.
The authority monitors compliance with the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA) in Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, enabling those countries to participate in the EU’s internal market.
Norway, through the state enterprise Enova, has decided to grant Nkr2.3bn (€211bn) to Equinor and its partners OMV, Petoro, Idemitsu, DEA and Var Energi to realise the Hywind Tampen project.
The money covers around 43% of the project’s investment costs.
