GreenIT, the Italian JV between Plenitude, CDP Equity and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has launched Divento, the new naming of the partnership dedicated to the development of a 3GW portfolio of five floating offshore wind projects in the country.
Copenhagen Offshore Partners is coordinating the development for the portfolio supported by GreenIT, iLS and 7SeasWind Power, the original founders of the schemes.
Once operational, the plants located approximately 30km off the coasts of Sicily, Latium and Sardinia will produce approximately 8TWh of renewable energy, enough to satisfy the electricity consumption of around 2.5 million households, and will contribute to Italy’s decarbonisation goals as outlined in the 2030 National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan.
Divento’s offshore projects will use floating foundations, in development with innovative technical solutions to minimise environmental and visual impacts.
The sites will also benefit from technological and logistic synergies with the other offshore wind initiatives managed within Divento.
The partnership has the ambition to open the path for floating wind in the Mediterranean and, thanks to its financial and industrial strength, to become a key player in the Italian market.
Divento has already obtained the EIA Decree for the 250MW 7Seas Med site, one of the partnership’s projects, on 21 March 2024, thus becoming the first EIA approval for a large offshore wind farm in the Mediterranean.
“The launch of Divento, the new brand of our floating offshore wind consortium in Italy, is an important milestone for the project partners and our COP team,” said COP Italy chief executive Michele Schiavone.
“The partnership between consortium members has in fact been in place for nearly three years, and now under this new identify we will together continue leading and unlocking floating offshore wind technology in the Italian market.”
CIP Partner Michael Hannibal added: “We are excited to announce the new name and logo for our Italian partnership on floating offshore wind.
“The Italian market for floating wind has strong long-term fundamentals and the Divento consortium is ideally positioned to leverage the market opportunities.”
Plenitude head of renewables Alessandro Della Zoppa said: “The launch of Divento comes at a crucial time for our floating offshore wind delivery plan in Italy.
“Our Sicilian project, 7 Seas Med, has just obtained the first large scale offshore wind EIA Decree in Italy and we are eager to move it to next stage.
In line with the national energy targets, Divento will contribute to the development of floating offshore wind in Italy.”
CDP Equity head of equity investments & portfolio management Davide Manunta added: “CDP aims to be at the forefront of the Italian energy transition, a ‘just transition’ is in our DNA and in what we do every day.
“Since we started back in 2022 the collaboration with our Partners, we had the vision that the development of the floating offshore wind industry had a huge potential for Italy, and for its positioning within the Mediterranean Sea.”
